Pour One More for Me

1/7/2023

We pour one for Gods and Goddesses
Submerge in French Quarter pool
To beat heat of southern summer

I’m at Tennessee Williams old home on Dumaine
And humidity is thick

I pour another for those
I can no longer hug
Tears travel down cheeks and drop into water
Ripples make their way to edge
I feel I’m on a ledge hearing echoes of those I’ve
lost
, screaming to have their stories told

Maybe it’s my voice I hear

Can't be sure
so I listen closer

And realize it's folks
in neighboring house
singing songs that sound
like tendrils of agony

I dive in delights
Swim all night
And give “A prayer for the wild at heart kept in cages”
As TW writes

~Fallon
